Comments: Russ makes some excellent observations in regards to modern legalistic views, like those esposed on Slice, and gnosticism. The legalistic/fundamentalist view which separates secular and sacred really does seem to have more basis in gnosticism than in historic Christianity or its root, Judaism.
Memorable Quotes:

…which brings me back to fear….

They are fearful of the school system and pull their kids out. They are fearful of music and slice down what is acceptable to listen to and worship with to hymns and gospel songs. They are fearful of growth and see any “big” church as doing something wrong or selling itself out. They are fearful of pastors who are engaging people in non-church settings (especially because these pastors are not bringing an altar call in each of the interactions and not disposed to street-preaching). They are fearful of the freedom afforded Christians and develop rules/standards for acceptable behavior.
