I think this video, The Inquisition, speaks for itself (specifically the music). I would love to hear your thoughts.

Valid but beating a dead horse. What was the point here that the inquisition was worse? How about allowing phone voting like American Idle for which was worse.
The Roman Catholic Church has definitely had a sordid past, but the message of salvation by works is the core problem. I love the fact that someone was so obsessed with the Inquisition that he wrote a song about it. What’s next?
How about a song about every individual pope outling his sins? A song about the crusades? A song about the Salem witch trials? A song about Ted Haggard? A song about Luther’s anti-semitism? How about a set of pope coffee mugs that give his name on one side and list his sins on the other? Collect the entire set and get a coffee maker in the form of a rock with Peter’s name on it so his coffee can be poured into all the other mugs, like God ordained it.
Hate has an energy all its own, as does love.
I agree… Christianity has a pretty dark history to it as well. The KKK should be enough to stop us from making fun of other denominations.
“Hate has an energy all its own, as does love.”
Agreed Rick…
If 50,000,000 have truly been murdered by Rome, then it is worse than the holocaust, in terms of numbers. However a great percentage of those killed by papal decree were jews, especially the sephardim.I also believe Rome, as well as the German Lutheran church, and others, should be held responsible for keeping their collective mouths shut while the 3rd Reich did its’ work.
There is no system or denomination that can claim to be “the church”
The Body of Christ exists as an organism outside of institutions. I have never worried about denominational boundaries, nor do I respect such boundaries. Rome is the grossest manifestation of the “mystery, Babylon, the mother of harlots”, which represents all world religions as well as apostate “christianity”
ouch…
I couldn’t help but wonder, when I watched that video, what words a Jewish songwriter would have put with them. Here’s a conversation that took place between a Christian friend of mine and his good Israeli Jewish friend:
J: What do you think of when you hear 1492?
C: Christopher Columbus discovering America.
J: Well, when I hear 1492, I think of the same King, the same Queen, and Jews in Spain being asked to 1) convert or 2) leave the country or 3) die.
I also thought of how much the crusades and the Inquisition still affect people trying to help Muslims and Jews understand what being a Christian means. Unfortunately many people in the world have yet to forget the history of “Christendom.”
(Sorry off topic here):
The “try following this logic” post is getting blocked for me. If anyone has any extra time they don’t know what to do with I would be interested in a summary of the discussion under “try following this logic.” without too many descriptive words so this post won’t get blocked as well. We have had a way of unblocking things in the past, but there’s been some problem with it for awhile.
Amy, did you realize that he (the author) was making this a dividing line between Catholics and Protestants… a way to show how apostate Catholics are.
and such a line is disengenuous.
Nathan,
I had only watched about 20 minutes of it before. After your comment I watched all of it.
As I was at the part, perhaps in the middle, where they were showing all the pictures of the Inquisition, I started wondering, what is in place today in the Catholic church to prevent something like this from happening again. I started thinking, the Pope is the authority, so what if another Pope comes along, like the 75-80 mentioned as supporting torture during the Inquisition.
Then, towards the end, he started talking about the c____ (sorry I can’t remember the word), (number 1311, and some other number), which seem to support the idea that yes, something like this could happen again. The Pope is after all the Holy Authority – with these c ___,s in place, what is to stop the catholic church from repeating the same errors?
Then he told the history of Croatia.
I’m sure it wasn’t your intention, but you have presented me with the most thought-provoking presentation I’ve ever seen to be extremely concerned about Catholocism.
As for your statement, did I realize that “he (the author) was making this a dividing line between Catholics and Protestants . . . a way to show how apostate Catholics are.” — no I didn’t realize that. But I would say after watching it that my belief at this moment is that the author is not MAKING this information do anything – but that it does show how apostate Catholocism is.
I want to make it clear that I am not trying to be contentious in any way and I am not trying to start an argument. The truth is I have been sitting here crying because I felt like I’ve seen something I’ve never seen clearly before and it may have some serious implications in my life. I also realize that I need to get some counsel on this – I’m going to have my husband watch this, as well as at least one of the pastor/elders at my church.
If you are going to go with that, the idea that if it happened in the past it might happen in the future, then what is in place to stop the KKK? You do realize that the KKK is a Christian organization, and it continues to commit hate crimes against blacks, gays and jews. What is in place to stop this within the Christian community?
No offense Amy, I don’t know you at all. But, it seems that you are swayed with every article and video you watch. Not that you change with every article, but you seem to return from reading or watching an article constantly more and more concerned.
Nathan,
My experience with Catholics and Catholocism goes beyond reading this article and having it influence me. Reading this article just added to some concerns I’ve had regarding some personal issues – greatly added to them.
I see the Catholic church becoming more and more “evangelical – friendly” and I constantly question whether it represents a change of beliefs, or is simply a form of syncretism. It’s so clear to see the syncretism in other countries. It’s harder to understand it here. What I am concerned about is realizing that, according to this video, nothing has changed in the Catholic church from preventing a Pope to dictate his will, desires to those who believe that his will is God’s will, if secular governments allow it. Thinking about that and the possible implications of it made me think that maybe I’m leaning way too far towards beginning to view the Catholic church as a church that is starting to go in the right direction. I’m not worried that “the Inquisition” could happen again – I’m fully convinced that God is in control of events on this earth – if there’s such an event again, then it will be because he allows it. I am concerned that I am obedient to God and able to recognize what is of him and what isn’t – and that I don’t in anyway give support to something that isn’t of him at all.
For anyone concerned about cult-type leaders shouldn’t the way the Catholic system is set up be a huge concern?
And as far as being “more and more concerned” yes, Nathan, that’s true.
Most Protestants would not react negatively to a video that showed the horrors the KKK has committed, with the suggestion that they need to be wary of the KKK. Many Protestants will react negatively to a video that shows some of the horrors the Catholic church has committed, with the suggestion that they need to be wary of the Catholic Church. One could look at the underlying beliefs of the KKK and say, there’s a great problem there, and be thankful that they are being held back by the law. The underlying belief of the Catholic Church, as I understand it, is that the Pope can direct the masses – If there are only “good Popes” there will never be anything like an Inquisition. But what if there is a “bad Pope” and a break-down of law and order that allows him to dictate “hatred” for certain groups to his followers? What is in place in the Catholic Church, at this time, to prevent such a thing from happening?
Amy don’t fall down here (you might want to sit down before you read the next part)
Nathan, I agree with Amy and I disagree with her. I’m not all that worried about another Inquisition. I think the world would step in and stop it, personally.
But I do have some serious issues with the Catholic Church. Not the Catholic person that lives across the street but the church. The entire structure of the church is set up to replace the Biblical structure that God has set up. Jesus is the head of the church, not the Pope. Jesus is our intercessor not a priest and so on and so forth.
The video made me sick to my stomach that something like that would happen. My concerns were in place long before I ever heard of a guy who set up a “ministry” where he is the founder and President of a one man show.
Wow, Joe, I did almost fall out of my chair
.
And I very much agree with the attitude behind this: “Not the Catholic person that lives across the street”
