Hey Guys,

I am on the production staff for a conference taking place this week.  Alot of emerging (and emergent for that matter) leaders from around the country are here through Thursday.  I have actually met several people that read CRN.info on a daily basis!  Many here have told me that countless others look to this site for logical answers to the charges against the emerging community.  Many of these young pastor are facing the same attacks from dead and dying churches in their area that Silva throws out.  I just thought that this would be a little boost, reminding us that our work here is impacting such a greater community.  Continue to pray for the movement of Jesus Christ that is taking place all across our country and the world!

Nathan,

Thank you for the encouragement in showing everyone that I’m not the only one leveling these “attacks” against the Emergent rebellion against the Bible.

Nathan,
Have you seen Ken’s latest? He has an inside man there keeping an eye on Erwin for us. That isn’t you is it?

Ken,

True, you’re not the only one. It’s as the guy (from “the same camp” as you) on Bob Hyatt’s site commented:

i’m a guy who is so much “in the same camp” as these guys on most issues. i love spurgeon, i’ve been called to be a calvinist, i even use jonny mac’s commentaries and other materials fairly regularly.

and i understand why they’re scared of emerging things. i’m not someone who jumps at change (the first time i read your article which used three critera for determing whether you are emerging or not i just assumed you were some pot-smoking west-coast hippie dude), but when i allowed myself to honestly evaluate some of the claims coming from “your camp”, i had to start rethinking things.

what makes me sad is that i’m coming to the conclusion that this is about power. i had hoped it wasn’t. i had hoped there were more pure motives, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

this is about labelling people with a scarlet “E” so that their own “sheep” will steer clear of anyone who might raise some difficult questions…

because they don’t think it’s okay for a pastor to say, “you know… i’m rethinking that, so i don’t have a good answer now.”

The denunciation of all things “emerging” is not about Christ – it’s about power.

O now Chris L. you know I can’t believe “the guy (from ‘the same camp’ as you) on Bob Hyatt’s site [who] commented.” because when I quote someone in a Rob Bell piece you always say that isn’t a source. Hmm, does that make you a hypocrite?

Yeah, the funny thing is, most of the information they are giving is incorrect. suprise suprise. It makes me laugh that CRN has to have inside sources at all the emerging conferences… they are probably still scrounging around for a good story

Ken writes:
Origins is “an interactive experience which mobilizes people to serve through the discovery of one’s uniqueness. Includes Gallup’s StrengthsFinder, Myers Briggs Type Indicator, and Character Matrix (based on Uprising by Erwin McManus).”

Unfortunately his “inside source” turned out to be pretty uninformed. Origins actually does not address any of these things. He got confused (as usual). These things are addressed at a one day event called Yelo.

Ken brought up Erwin speaking about “feeding my sheep”. However, he failed to mentioned that Erwin addressed the verses in John 21:17-18. Ken, why exactly did you not print Erwin’s exxegesis of this passage? My guess is that it would kill you argument.

Again, for someone so concerned about the truth, he sure leaves alot of it out of his writing.

Have no fear everyone… the movement of Jesus Christ is alive an well, despite the Ken Silvas and their inside men of the world.

Unfortunately his “inside source” turned out to be pretty uninformed.

Oops, my dear “brother” Nathan gets set straight yet again. You see he neglected to follow the link I provide there within my piece. This alleged “uninformed” information is taken directly from the Origin website itself. Ha, so I guess this is false advertising on Erwin’s part. He lied, wow big surprise.

McManus says: “We choose the name Mosaic because it is an art form where broken and fragmented pieces are brought together by an artist to create something beautiful out of the imperfect and irregular pieces. We are a work of art formed by the hand of the master artist. He is creating something beautiful through us all using even our brokenness and imperfection.

Well I asked Robbie Sortino, former youth pastor at Mosaic, about this. He had already told me that he had suggested the name Mosaic to Erwin one night in a parking lot. Here’s what Robbie said about the above “story” from McManus:

“He loves to rewrite/retell history to fit his identity. That is partially true, but not accurate, and he knows it…” It’s not going to go away friend. :-)

from the website:

“Pre-Conference Option (April 30th): Yelō”
“Origins (May 1st-2nd)”

Check the schedule for Origins too there. They are two separate events. Sorry Ken, but really nice effort.

I am actually sitting right next to the guy from the story above. I could have him email you. Maybe you could spend less time stirring up strife with former church members.

Their ex church members for reasons…that the Lord may very well be bringing to light. Have a nice day…waiting…

Ken, for one so old and wise your grammar is atrocious!

“Their” should be “they’re,” your use of an ellipses is incredibly flawed and you failed to add a “-” betwixt “ex” and “church.”

I’d expect such folly from young, ignorant Nathan, but not old, wise Silva.

Yeah Todd, grammar…that’s what’s important here. Just shows your youthful ignorance to miss the point. Nice try though. :-)

No Ken, what’s important here is dialog. Since you don’t actually respond to posed questions or employ any semblance of respect in your comments, I choose to point out the flaws in your grammar. And it seems especially appropriate to do such since you position yourself as an old, wise scholar and attempt to lower me to the ranks of a young, foolish child.

Perhaps I wouldn’t have time to do such if you actually embraced the purpose of a blog (i.e. civil dialog as opposed to petty insults).

Ken says

because when I quote someone in a Rob Bell piece you always say that isn’t a source. Hmm, does that make you a hypocrite?

I’m not so much relying on his credibility as a source, but crediting his analysis of the situation. I am simply trying to give credit, where credit is due (since it was not my original idea).

Additionally, he is not the central feature of the article above, but support within the comments on the article – a totally different beast. He is not the “source” of my article, nor am I relying on whether or not he really exists as what he says he is, but his analysis is spot on. I would not use him as a “proof-source”, though, on why you’re all wet in most of your analyses – you do that well enough without help.

“attempt to lower me to the ranks of a young, foolish child” Nah, you do that yourself.

And I forgive you for falsely accusing me of that. :-)

I think Ken will have a fun time addressing Origins Day 2. Especially since he addressed Ken publicly in front of the whole conference. Hopefully his inside source was taking good notes.

Is this online somewhere?

nope… the DVD will be out soon though. It was part of the Q&A. He addressed all the criticism from Ken and others. It was powerful.
