From yesterday’s news, here’s a perfect example of what happens when we make our enemies out of flesh and blood.
MANILA, Philippines — Five members of a Protestant church in Taguig City, including its pastor, were stabbed by a 27-year-old man, who found the sermon last Sunday objectionable, according to the police.
The victims were rushed to the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay City and were in stable condition, though three remained under observation as of yesterday.
Still confined are Susie de Asis, 30, and Emelita Dominguez, 47, both vendors, and Jonathan Marquez, 23, a church worker. The other two, Pastor Armando de Vera, 49, and Rosalinda Decena, 55, also a vendor, have already checked out of the hospital.
The suspect, Jerry Relacion, a jobless man, was arrested but not before taking a beating from the mob that chased him after the attack, the police said.
The incident occurred on Sunday noon as members of Jesus King of Glory Christian Church at Purok 4, Bagong Tanyag in Taguig City were talking after the worship service, investigators said.
Chief Insp. Celso Rodriguez, head of the criminal and investigation division, said Relacion, wielding an ice pick, suddenly began running after De Vera and the people around him.
He stabbed the five in various parts of the body before trying to flee. But the people who saw what happened blocked his path and repeatedly punched and kicked him, Rodriguez said.
In the official report, the Taguig police listed the motive behind the stabbing as “differences in religious belief/faith.â€
Case investigator PO1 Melvin Garcia said the suspect listened to the sermon and was angered after hearing the pastor’s words.
“He kept saying that the pastor was wrong,†he told the Inquirer.

I know if it were our church and somebody attacked our pastor, there’d be some laying on of the hands. ha ha ha
I have personally heard someone loudly scream his objection to a statement by a Preacher and walk out in the middle of the sermon, but to bottle up one’s objection and resort to direct physical violence in the lobby immediately after the service is a new one.
Here is a similar story from last year.
By the way, Chris L, I am also trying to figure out what kind of “battle line” Pastor Ken referred to yesterday in his last comment before he departed this blog. I certainly hope ice picks are banned in that battle.
I guess I should have kept talking to him… maybe he would not have left.
No, Ken has a battle line that seems askew at best. He thinks that “people” being “spiritual” can be attacked at that “spiritual” level…
In that he confuses that we are still flesh and blood.
In this dualistic biblical understanding, Ken and others can rationalize judging “spiritual” fruit… forgetting man being spiritual does bear his own stinking fruit.
They focus on what they can see, hear and touch and say it is spiritual. They miss that man is a fallen creature that needs salvation. In that they think if man in that fallen state is Satanic forgetting that the Powers and Rulers of this world are fighting over mankind.
They are so focused on the little picture, not trusting God can purify His own Body (or rather the Body of Christ is and never will be impure) and fight for an institution instead of seeing the Body of Christ as a living organism.
Oh, BTW Ken will be back… he will be either nastier (like 7 times), or repentant… you watch.
Blessings,
iggy
