From here:

Well, you know, we have had a lot of people who have been displaced in their own homes, but we have also had a lot of people taking people into their homes. We — our church is built on what we call small groups. We have about 3,500 small groups that go from Malibu all the way down to Carlsbad. They’re in every city in Southern California. And, so, our members have been taking in people all week. So, instead of them having to go to evacuation centers, they’re actually staying in homes of our members.

If we’re evaluating fruit, then this fruit is good.

Of course we don’t see the reformed/conservative/odm churches publicizing their “good deeds”, probably beacause they don’t do any.
Thank God for Rick Warren, where would we be without him?

Matthew 6:
1″Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
2 “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Chris P,
Seriously, you’re a joke. If you can’t say a good thing about this, then you’ve been consumed by your biases and have no ability to evaluate scripture, teachings, or actions in anything approaching an objective way.

Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

1 Peter 2:12
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Chris P, seriously. They just can’t win with you. No matter what they do, you will try and discredit them purely because you think they’re apostate Christians. Here’s an idea. Instead of you judging them, how about we leave that responsibility to God. And when that time comes, may He have mercy on your soul as well.

ChrisP,

Went and checked out your church’s vision statement:

…exists to win people to Jesus Christ and bring them to his eternal family through membership, to see them grow to Christ-like maturity, and equip them to effectively fulfill the mission of evengelizing the world and ministry to the Church to use whatever means necessary to fulfill his mandate for us in order to magnify his name.

exists to win people to Jesus Christ=evangelism
bring them to…membership=fellowship
to see them grow to Christ-like maturity=discipleship
and equip them to effectively fulfill the mission=ministry
in order to magnify his name=worship

Wow…the place sounds positively emergent AND purpose driven, but it’s apparent only you and your friends get to use language like “whatever means necessary” without being criticized. So much for not being a “respecter of persons”.

I don’t get you, dude. Your church looks like it’s doing amazing work reaching out to people who have been oppressed and forgotten by this culture…one would think you would be happy when people reach out and serve others with the love of Jesus.

Step back to the big picture and, whether you like it or not, there really isn’t much difference between you and the people you bash.

Enjoy that today…
