I've read other "corrections" of the stereotype that focus on "inn." These said a better translations would be "guest quarter." Since Joseph probably had relative in Bethlehem, they would have put them up if they could - but their spare rooms were full. That's why they were in temporary quarters. Unfortunately, many churches this year will once again portray the event as a young couple on the road unable to find a hotel 'cause they didn't make reservations. Neil S. Good reminders.
