Well its Thanksgiving day, so although it won’t be as epic as Rick’s humor day lets get to giving some thanks for the blessings God has given us.

Many times I feel as if I am the least deserving sinner of God’s love. I am thankful for Jesus about whom I knew something until I met and began to follow Him in March of 1975. From then on Thanksgiving had a real meaning!
I am thankful for my family… and friends.
And all God has done in and through them.
blessed,
iggy
I am thankful for:
- “Amazing grace that saved a wretch like me.”
- my wife of 27+ years, and my two sons that drive me crazy (some days, that’s a short trip).
- Another day to live in Christ–by His power–better than I did yesterday.
Have a great day, fellas!
My thankful list:
God’s mercies
My wife
My son
The opportunity that God has given me to minister
And lots more
I am grateful that the Lord â€â€¦does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.†(Psalm 103:10 ESV)
I am thankful for my godly, amazing and beautiful wife Michelle.
I am grateful for my family…http://www.borrowedbreath.com/family/
I am thankful.
For everything.
Everyone…yes, everyone!
I can’t think of anything God has created we should not be thankful for – even those things which might seem painful to us, at the time.
Specifically for me, though, I am thankful for my godly wife, my four children, and a family who loves me. Just in this, I have more than I deserve.
Seven posts of thankfulness…107 posts pointing out CRN’s “skewed view of the world” and “obvious blindspot [s].” Time well spent.
Keith,
That’s just how skewed the watchdoggies view of the world is.
Or maybe just how “unthankful” we are. Pa-tay-toe…pa-taw-toe.
Tim, you (and Chris L) seem like educated guys. Instead of spinning your wheels on Ken and Ingrid, how about putting some of that Greek and Hebrew book knowledge to better use with some uplifting opinions/bible studies? Not that I would agree with you, but I have many friends/aquaintances” in Restoration Movement churches that might benefit from a “history” lesson of sorts. You guys seem to know a lot about that sort of thing. They’re not getting it from their own pulpits.
The people that read their site (CRN/Slice) already agree with them; if they happend to wander over here, chances are slim they will change their opinion. To paraphrase Gamaliel: “If God ain’t in it (CRN), it’s gonna fail anyway. If He is, you’re wasting your time.
Keith,
Chris L. has done quite a few posts that are purely Bible Study / Educational. Check out his “Saved to What Purpose” series as well as the “De-Sanitizing Christmas” series. There are others too, as well as posts on his personal blog.
Phil: My intent was not to imply that Tim or Chris had NEVER done a “Bible Study/Educational” post…if that’s how it came across.
Keith,
I’m consistently working on one or two of those types of articles at any particular time (and they do take awhile to do). In the past year, I’ve written/finished a good number, including “Saved to What Purpose”, the days of Holy Week, de-Sanitizing Christmas, and a number of other one- or two-part studies (most get published on my own blog, though I’ve started double-posting to this one, as well.
Commentary articles with ODM’s, in general, are much more time-sensitive/reactive, though not always, such as with this one (which was several weeks in the making).
I suppose I could go out and copy/paste sermons from dead guys like Oswald Chambers, or living ones like Brennan Manning, etc., etc., but that seems like the lazy-man’s way out…
Keith,
I do post all of my non-watchdoggie stuff over at Church Voices, though I will say you were quite critical of my the only devotion I ever linked to from the comments in your site.
Tim: There were no comments on the linked post. Did I not understand your comment?
Chris L: You don’t have to just cut-and-paste from “dead guys.” For as little as $64.95/year, you can download “virtually every thing you need in your weekly preparations…from Sermons.com including: Sermons, Sermon Illustrations, Eulogies, PowerPoint Sermons, etc.” Also, Ed Young Jr. has a pretty good gig going at creativepastors.com (notice I didn’t provide the links). You could actually never write another sermon AGAIN!
Seriously though, why do you devote so much attention on basically two people? Do you feel like you’re making headway in disspelling what they are posting? Really, I’m being serious here. I find the “relationship” between yours and their site quite fascinating.
There has been an effect.
1. I assume due to pressure exerted by this blog and others they’ve cut out comments from the two biggest offenders, thus destroying any ability to create a community.
2. While the vitriol is still at far too high of a level its not where it once was. Remember when the alleged pastor Silva would precede every single mention of an individual he disagreed with with whatever stupid nickname he thought was clever (the protestant pope, the emergent hollow men etc)?
3. SoL isn’t nearly what it was. No more regular postings, and I would guess that the two shutdowns much lower traffic.
4. They don’t go unquestioned. They don’t get to sit around making up crap about people they don’t like without being vetted. Google searchers now have as good a chance of turning up our research as turning up their “research”.
5. Rick Freuh.
Tim: Do you spend as much time preparing your sermons and/or Sunday School lessons as you do addressing the “crap?”
Rick? You think he’s a convert? Okie-dokie.
Keith,
I spend 20-30 hours on my sermon.
And convert is a bit strong of a word, how about “not a watchdoggie”.
Tim: This is where you and I have a very hard time communicating. The question was: Do you spend as much time preparing your sermons and/or Sunday School lessons as you do addressing the “crap?â€
I did not ask for an amount of time. My kids do this to me. I really do try to be nice most of the time. I can be obtuse, irritating, smart-aleck, etc.; I’ve even have been known to hijack a thread…but, most of the time, in light of the disdain I have for the emergent church and it’s sympathizers, I TRY to be civil. I begin to become cranky when I ask what seems to be a very straightforward, simple question and I get an “amost answer.”
So, are you saying you spend the SAME amount of time (20-30 hours) preparing your sermon as you do addressing the “crap.”
PS: Have you ever thought back to that day you asked me to be part of your podcast and say to yourself: “Thank GOD he said ‘no’!?” I get the impression many times that you and I would probably be pretty good friends as long as we didn’t discuss church/religion/God, etc.
Now this is where I’m starting to get a bit insulted. Do you really think what I post here would take me 20-30 hours in a week to post? Obviously my affection for zombies and batman is throwing you off.
I suspect you might be surprised. I suspect almost all of our differences are brought up here. I also suspect that if the watchdoggies were Wesleyan you’d probably be able to see how extraordinarily flawed their methodology is.
Tim: You brought up the 20-30 hours, not me. I have no idea how much time you spend on this blog. Again, that wasn’t the question. The question in it’s simpliest form was: which do you spend more time on–blog or sermons. You could have simply answered “sermons.” I would have been good with that.
In answer to your question: “Do you really think what I post here would take me 20-30 hours in a week to post?” I know that I spend some time looking up a lot of the terms and phrases you guys throw around here. Like I said, you come across as a pretty smart guy. Maybe you’ve got all those things in your head; I don’t. “…if the guys down at the VFW can’t understand you, its not worth saying.” (Tim Russert)
I think you try to make things too hard. (Sorry, I didn’t understand the “Wesleyan” comment.)
So surprise me. Are you glad I said “no?.” What differences stand out most to you? Are you saying we probably wouldn’t be friends?
Keith,
To interpret Tim’s remarks:
1) The Wesleyan comment was suggesting that your defense of ODM’s may spring more from your Calvinist convictions than biblical practice, and that if hard-core Arminians (Wesleyans) were running the ODM’s, you would probably not be defending them or their tactics…
2) He was not glad you said “no” – and I was disappointed, as well.
3) Speaking only for myself, I write most of what I do in my head while in my 60-90 minutes of daily commute, with only the need to look up links and direct quotes once I sit down to write…
Now there’s an answer the boys at the VFW can understand! That wasn’t so hard, was it?!
BTW, I honestly couldn’t tell you off the top of my head whether Ken or Ingrid were “calvinists.” I don’t know the theological preferences of the guy at “A Little Leaven.” (I mention those three because they are the blogs I frequent)
Being reformed/Calvinist, etc isn’t a criteria for me as far as the “watchdoggie” sites I read. I would assume there are plenty of Arminian watchdog sites that aren’t fans of Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, the emerging church, etc.
Wow,
I came to read about other’s thankfulness and Keith derailed the whole thread with a defense of the ODM’s.
Sad… it seems even their friendliest supporters can’t stay in a God oriented thankfulness without some grip to throw in.
But, I am still thankful for all God has given me and that by His Grace has shown me great mercy and love.
Blessings,
iggy
Keith,
Weird you mentioned Russert, I left a comment and then deleted it on your blog referencing that quote his dad left him with.
And Chris L is right, if you ever want to be on one of our podcasts you have a standing invitation for at least one appearance.
Tim – I figured it was you. It was a good quote. Why delete it?
Iggy – OK brother. The gloves are coming off. You want to talk about derailing a thread? I was shocked your “thankfulness” didn’t include a reference to how bad you have treated by Ken Silva! You are the MASTER at turning a thread into a “poor Iggy. Ken talked mean to me” rant.
As far as derailing the thread, it was obviously already dead already(7 vs. 100+ comments). Everyone else was busy trying to determine what was or wasn’t “God’s wrath.” I just occupied unused space.
As far as defending the ODM’s, I asked the question why so much time was spent here on basically two people and I stated that I read/frequent three blogs that fall under yours/others label of “ODM.” Just because you read MY blog, does that mean you are defending ME? I doubt it.
Keith,
I wanted to add something to it, so I was going to delete it and add a new one, then I forgot to copy the original and gave up.
But yeah, its something I try to keep in mind.
