Dave - your question is better phrased, "did Jesus have s'mikah?", or, "was Jesus a s'mikah'd Rabbi?"

Refer to Matt 7:28-29; Mark 1:27; and Luke 4:32

The Gospel writers point out that the crowds who listened to Jesus referred to him as one who taught with "authority", or, "s'mikah".

This term is not used lightly and is not insignificant.

I feel bad no one is commenting on this post. It’s funny and kind of sad that most of the comments go to the ‘controversial’ posts, and not to the posts with the great subject matter needing to be discussed.
Wow, those were my thoughts EXACTLY just this afternoon.

It’s what keeps me coming back to this blog
Same here.

Chris, I sort of got lost in that one, was Jesus a "s’mikah"?

I printed this out to read closely, but never commented on it. Even though I don't always comment on them, I really enjoy the articles you write on Hebrew culture, the context of Scripture, etc. It's what keeps me coming back to this blog. This is stuff I don't hear about in church that I wish I did and I wish more people did.

Have you ever considered writing a book?

Thanks, Joe...

It is an interesting observation you make, though. Something else I find interesting, though, is that articles like this one generate the most personal email, though (asking for clarification, giving more information, requesting reference material, etc.)

Chris,

I feel bad no one is commenting on this post. It's funny and kind of sad that most of the comments go to the 'controversial' posts, and not to the posts with the great subject matter needing to be discussed. This one had some really great information I hadn't heard before. I always assumed that "rabbi" today means something totally different than what people meant when they called Jesus a "rabbi", or others for that matter. I'm looking forward to the other parts of this. Thanks
