once again
twist, tangle, mix, mince, dice, kneed, jumble… all things done to Rick Warren’s words to create controversy. The latest
Rick Warren goes to the National Cathedral and declares that “the future of the world is not secularism, it’s religious pluralism.” Warren is also calling for mainline churches and evangelicals to come back together.
Can you say ecumenicalism or one-world religion?
No, you really can’t say that — at least about this quote. I would agree with Warren. The world is not necessarily becoming more and more secular. There is a rise in interest in spiritual things in modern culture. Both Kabbalah and Islam are on the rise. What we will probably end up with is a very religiously plual society. Does Warren support this, or think that it is a good thing? probably not. Does he think we need to to all get along? Sure.
I am beginning to think there is a a Warren obsession going on here.

I’m really confused. Warren was contrasting secularism with religious pluralism. If the ODMs think the alternative to secularism is the existence of a one-world religion, does that mean they are in favor of secularism?
Is the goal of ODMs to get the U.S. to be more like France? Where religion lives in the shadow of the State?
Or is the goal theocracy, where perhaps Christianity is totally free from government interference, but other religions are suppressed or completely banned?
In other words, I am completely and totally baffled that the ODMs would take issue with an argument against secularism.
Can you help me out ?
I see in this comment and the other comment about Brian’s post the acronym ODM, what does this refer to ?
I, personally, do not see where and why people are upset with him on his “three-stool” approach at he world meeting.
We have an opportunity to make a lot of the yuckiness of this world go away. If we has faith groups, private sectors and the goverment all teamed up; we could end a lot of the worlds problems.
ODM = Online “Discernment” Ministry (see our Glossary in the Upper-Left for more acronyms & such…)
Thanks. Now, I feel a little dumb that it was in the glossary section. i should have put 2 and 2 together.
Thanks for the directions, greatly appreciative.
