This podcast breaks from our new format. Its just me on it, and I take some quotes from the character Angela from the television show The Office and apply what we see there to the American evangelical church. I think this is instructive because this character is the only evangelical Christian on the show and though, like all the characters, she’s over the top, it does give us a little peek at how those outside the church view us.

You know I wish we could dismiss the Angela caricature, or the Flanders, the Church Lady or the pictures given in the movie Saved.

It would be really easy to toss those out if I hadn’t met so many Christians just like each caricature. Sure not quite as cartoony, but pretty darn close.

at least flanders was buff & friendly.

angela, makes me laugh with her unfriendliness.

Jim: Okay, so, three books on a desert island… Angela.
Angela: The Bible.
Stanley: That’s one book, you got two others.
Angela: A Purpose Driven Life.
Jim: Nice. Third book.
Angela: No.
Jim: Okay. Phyllis?
Phyllis: Um, The DaVinci Code.
Angela: The DaVinci Code. I would take The DaVinci Code, so I could burn The DaVinci Code.
