Here’s a nugget that is (admittedly) hardly worth the effort, but since it’s a slow day at SOL and things here have been a little too political…
SOL has decided to take on the toy industry. This raised three immediate questions: 1) why bother with what appears to be a secular toy company product line – since when is the church called to judge those outside the faith? 2) What is the harm in this anyway? and 3) Which is worse, this company’s product, or the racial stereotype portrayed in the opening paragraph?

That was a very odd post. Of course I would also offer a burning lake of fire dynorama you could put the other three dolls in if I was the toy company. (Not that one should joke about such a thing).
First time commenter, hope this is welcome. I too thought this odd. Sometimes I think Ingrid has good things to say, and I think her personal blog is quite nice. But the doll post was kind of a “huh?” moment. (Particularly the line in the first paragraph. Saying all Muslims want to blow “us” up is like saying all Christians bomb abortion clincis.)
First off, (speaking from the position of experience as the mother of 3-year-old and 5-year-old girls) there are plenty of dolls out there from which to choose. Not to mention–my girls love a series of books about a family of Jewish girls and enjoy learning about those traditions. My younger daughter’s pre-school teacher is an Indian Muslim. We teach our girls to show the love of Jesus to those with whom they come in contact–no matter what their race/ethnicity/religion.
Why the vitriol about dolls? Just don’t buy them. Do people feel threatened by them?
By all means…
Why the vitriol about dolls? Just don’t buy them.
Of all of the things to find threatening, this one has me baffled, as well…
Is this “news of the contemporary church” or “commentary on the contemporary church” (see SoL’s sub-title)?
Next week: A special expose — Hookers are having s3x for money!
This is part of the reason I no longer have SoL in my feed reader; just so much hate, anger, vitriol… all the things I don’t need more of in my life.
Heaven knows she can’t mention Saddleback Church being picketed by 300 people upset with Rick Warren’s support of Prop 8, a proposition on the CA ballot stating that CA should only recognize marriage of a man and a women.
Oh no! Can’t discuss that! It would go against her attempts to (incorrectly) claim Warren is supportive or friendly to the practice of homosexuality. Nope, ol’ Ingrid won’t let the facts get in the way of a good bias.
Typical Ingrid. The amazing ability to take something as harmless as dolls, and meld that with the fact that there are other religions and cultures, and that there might be children and parents who find learning about other cultures and beliefs fascinating and knowledge expanding.
But not in Ingridland, where the path is no wider than a chalkstripe, and danger lurks at every turn.
I know people that are like her. Waking up every day and seeking something to be offended by gives them some reason to swing their legs over the side of the bed.
I guess I just don’t understand her.
I like the voodoo dolls, myself.
