Tomorrow a black man will be sworn in as President of the United States. It is a monumental step in race relations, but we should remember a few things. This was made possible by the passing of time, the slow process of integration, the impact of black sports figures, and just the metamorphosis inherrant in new generations.

But the country did not change to please Christ, even the church was racist and still retains some vestiges of prejudice. I feel good that a black man was elected, but he or anyone else will not be the answer. The people of the world are in for hard times, many live consistently in hard times, but the answer will always be Jesus.

And He desires the church to come alive againg and preach and live the gospel as if our very lives depended upon it.

Hi Jill,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.
My point wasn't to say that any activity is/was ontologically evil or wrong, but I think speaking in general terms, too much of the church has moved away from what God has called us to do to fight "the war" for truth or the church, etc.

Joe,
I agree with your view of reframing....Just a question....why do you assume that peole who protest don't pray? Or that people who fight for godly principles in political/governmental realm have put down their bibles? I know many who have been called to the battle in the prolife movement and also as statesmen ,businessmen and consultants in the political arena and they have done neither. Have there been a loud contingent of evangelicals that have gone out to protest and also promote a "Christian agenda" without a solid biblical foundation ? Of course. I cringe to hear them on talk shows....I would suggest God has called some to do His work in these areas. Maybe they were "reframed" in ways we have not been. Just a thought.

Excellent post, Joe!

I think sometimes that the unknown of the "reframed" world we get invited to is often more scary than the logical ends of the one we're living in...

<blockquote>"We’ve exchanged time on our knees in prayer for time on our feet in protest marches. We’ve exchanged trust in a God who has promised to meet all of our needs for trust in a political system. We’ve laid down our greatest identifying marker (love for one another) for theological wars. We’ve traded in faith, hope and love for name-calling, castigation and witty titles. We’ve traded in forgiveness for grudges."</blockquote>

Excellent. The entire post points out a major error is focus. Very good thoughts. I wrote this last month on that same subject.
