How about karate as ministry? Its free. Kids are taught self-esteem. They memorize scripture for belt advancement. They invite their friends. They pray before class. They learn that 99% of all situations can be handled through verbal means rather than physcial. They fellowship. So we can do karate without bringing Eastern practices into the mix. I am quite confident the ADMs with approve of my ministry.

There is a guy here in Billings who is up front about his faith and teaches Martial arts. He uses it as an outreach.

I thought about taking the courses myself and since my son saw Kung Fu Panda last night he's got some natural moves... I am seriously thinking of doing it.

It occurs to me that there are karate teachers out there that dabble just a smidge in the eastern mysticism and such, that really don't know what they're doing. For a Christian to recognize that and ignore the small bit of bad stuff to concentrate on the good stuff (exercise, self-defense) would require discernment.

Ya know, the real kind. Not the kind that ADMs use.

Actually, I think they also need to stand against Tae Kwon Do.

It primarily concentrates on the lower body.

We know how that could orient people toward thinking about their naughty bits and the general swimsuit area further exacerbating the sexualization of the culture.

Actually, Orthodoxy is Catholic Deep and timeless--can you say 5 hour liturgies all standing?

Anglicanism is jokingly called Catholic Lite.
But as an Anglican I don't see it.

Ingrid: I salute him for recognizing the great evangelical disaster and heading for the door.

A really new perspective on Paul: Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual head for the door.
