From the mailbag:

AOG pastor says that the tragic Victorian bush fires are the result of
God’s wrath
on Australia because of the abortion laws. The real reason
is the the Green party here lobbied and made it illegal to back burn and
as such the fires simply ravaged everything in it’s path. The Greens
then blamed global warming.

Socialism and the Environmentalism movement at work!

The best part of that story is the name of this man’s ministry is “Catch the Fire Ministries”…

I guess they didn’t catch it soon enough!

Phil – LOL

Assigning divine motive for natural catastrophies is such recreational fun. At the core of such prophetic mantles is self righteousness.

Does God blame the government or the church for the slide into immorality? I know what will stem the abortion tide in America – hatred for Obama and more protest marches following in the footsteps of John Huss.

BTW – If God started the fires, couldn’t He direct them to the abortion clincs? I guess His power is limited to starting the fire and then where is goes is open theism.

Also, another thing I thought of is this. Weren’t a lot of these fire started by an arsonist? Was God responsible for causing the arsonist to set them?

While I believe in the reality of God’s wrath, I find reprehensible that preachers would use such events to talk about non-related issues. Abortion is wrong – so is using a natural disaster to highlight abortion.

It’s so tragic. 189 people died in it, and even if we assume it’s true, yelling such accusations neither helps clean up nor comfort the victims. The appropriate action would be to help and kindly tell them later.

You are right Phil, it was started by multiple arsonists. There was a report of one fellow who was fined for backburning. Now the silly green policy has caused the whole lot to go.

Assuming it’s Gods wrath again, there are so many worse things done in our nation than abortion (adulteries, fornications, local murders, foreign murders, theft by force through socialism, jailing petty traffic offenders and letting assaults and other crimes walk free etc), and yet God promised Abraham He would save Sodom for ten righteous people.

Dave – God’s wrath? 189 people? Come on, I believe if and when He gets angry He’ll be able to do much greater damage than 189 people. It is interesting that these self proclaimed prophet’s always see God’s wrath on soneone else but them and their friends.

Might I suggest that people like this pastor and Pat Robertson are actually treating God like a pet?

“Here’s an issue that I feel strongly about. God, sic ‘em.”

It is only testimony to God’s grace and forbearance that the response to that kind of blasphemy is not an instant lightning bolt.
