And I have found that a large majority of the self-proclaimed Calvinists in the blogosphere are very set on God’s sovereignty within salvific issues, but (tacitly) deny it vehemently in all other areas. But I still are one.

Maybe you are the first?

If every person who proclaimed to be of a certain persuasion was totally representative of that persuasion, this blog would not be necessary.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I’m one of those nasty Calvinists that your mom warned you about. And I have found that a large majority of the self-proclaimed Calvinists in the blogosphere are very set on God’s sovereignty within salvific issues, but (tacitly) deny it vehemently in all other areas. The theology itself is a breathtaking study in contradiction. This quote from Spurgeon was posted at Pyro the other day:

“Judge, then, my hearers, whether you are alive unto God, or not. Before you can rightly know the truth, before you are qualified to learn its mysteries, pray that you may be made to live by faith in Jesus Christ; for before food comes life.”

That quote is a testament to touting total depravity but in practice denying it. It’s just too easy.

True, but I’ve been moderated on Calvinist’s blogs for pressing the issue, one Calvinist blogger even stating that Finny hardened a whole generation against the gospel. How in Calvinist theology can one of the Elect be hardened against the gospel to their damnation? How could Finny or any other Arminian affect the eternal destination of the Elect? Let me anwer that question for you, they couldn’t if TULIP is true and taken to its logical conclusion. (and I find hiding behind “its a mystery” to be very duplicitious). Either one believes and accepts the logical exposition of the tenants of one’s theology or they don’t. But don’t tell me you (not “you” personally but certain prominent Calvinists bloggers) believe in irresistable grace for the Elect or that salvation is monogestic but which at the same time be negatively contraveined or thwarted by humans and their gospel sharing methodology.

Ah, the proverbial Calvinist’s matra of having ones cake and eating it too. According to TULIP, irresistable grace is, well, irresistable. If someone is Elect then they WILL be saved at some time in their life. Period. It matters not how poorly delivered is the means, the Elect will be saved. So in the ultimate and **logical** outworking of this tenant such laughable approaches of yesteryear’s evangelism tactics would untimately have ABSOLUTELY NO NEGATIVE EFFECT on the eternal destiney of one of the Elect.

But let’s not exegete the outworking of one of TULIP’s glorious petals to its logical conclusion.
